The blue brand put the WWE Universe in the driver’s seat Friday night with the emergence of Social Media SmackDown, featuring live Superstar and Diva tweets, trending topics, interactive polls, Touts and more.

Leading the charge was World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio, who asked the WWE Universe to decide which opponent he would face on next week’s SmackDown. And in a Twitter poll, the fans would make their voice heard, choosing to pit Del Rio against either Dolph Ziggler, Antonio Cesaro or Wade Barrett. The WWE Universe flooded both Twitter and WWE.com with votes, ultimately selecting Ziggler to lock horns with the reigning titleholder in one week!

The result could prove to be a dangerously full dance card for Del Rio, who now has a contest with The Showoff in addition to the growing threat of his WrestleMania No. 1 contender, the contentious Jack Swagger.

Moreover, the proud Mexican champion wasn’t the only Superstar to get in the spirit of Social Media SmackDown. During a commercial break of the history-making episode of the blue brand, fans that had uploaded the WWE App cheered The Miz as he made United States Champion Antonio Cesaro tap out in a WWE Active exclusive moment. It was the second fall of their intense 2-out-of-3 Falls Match.

Never one to be outdone, six-time World Champion Chris Jericho Skyped his way into the action as well, talking about his band Fozzy’s tour of Australia and his new Syfy series, “Robot Combat League.” Meanwhile, JBL delivered a Tout to the world, updating the WWE Universe on his mountain climbing adventures. In addition, a bevy of Superstars and Divas tweeted throughout the monumental social media event, with WWE fans adding their tweets into the mix as well.
